Is the HPV Vaccine Safe? – Kristine Borrison, MD – Gynecology

– The safety of the HPV vaccine
is a very common question and common concern and it
is a very safe vaccine. All vaccines in the United States go through extensive trials
before they’re even brought to market and this one is no exception. It has been very extensively
tested for safety and then the vaccine has
continued to be monitored for any adverse effects since
it’s come to market in 2006, and there have been no adverse
effects since that time. The vaccine has been found to be very safe and I would say that it’s
certainly safer to get the vaccine than to acquire HPV. The HPV has been shown
to cause genital warts. It’s been shown to cause cervical cancer and pre-cancerous changes. Being vaccinated against this is, I think, is a very safe alternative.
