Meet Kimberly Ma, M.D., Gynecology & Maternity Care Provider | UW Medicine

chose UW Medicine because I have a strong
interest in clinical medicine, and then I also appreciate
the research aspect and the patient
population that we serve. I feel that both clinical
care and research complement each other in that our
research questions are generated by our clinical
care of our patients. Initially, I didn’t think I
was going into women’s health. I thought I was initially
going into pediatrics. And on my OB rotation,
I had a high-risk mother that I was taking care of whose
baby was infected with spina bifida, and I knew
that we were trying to get the best outcome for
both the mother and her baby. And it was really
interesting to me to have two patients
to take care of during that one pregnancy. We’re all unique
in the experiences that we’ve had previously
with other patients and in our training. And I think each day
brings a new perspective. And even though I
am an obstetrician and I deliver
babies frequently, I appreciate that it’s a new
experience for each patient that I take care of.
