Obamacare: Delivering Affordable Health Care

[President Obama] I know there will be a lot
of discussion today about the politics of all this – about who won, and who lost. [President Obama] But that discussion, completely
misses the point. Whatever the politics, today’s decision was a victory for people all over
this country whose lives will be more secure, because of this law and the Supreme Court’s
decision to uphold it. If you’re one of the more than 250 million Americans who already
have health insurance, you will keep your health insurance. This law will only make
it more secure and more affordable. Insurance companies can no longer impose lifetime limits
on the amount of care you receive. They can longer discriminate against children with
pre-existing conditions. They can no longer drop your coverage if you get sick. They can
no longer jack up your premiums without reason. They are required to provide free preventive
care, like check-ups and mammograms. Young adults under the age of 26 are able to stay
on their parents’ health care plans. Seniors receive a discount on their prescription drugs. [President Obama] And by this August, nearly 13 million
of you will receive a rebate from your insurance company, because it spent too much on things
like administrative costs and CEO bonuses and not enough on your health care. All of
this is happening because of the Affordable Care Act. [President Obama] Today, I’m as confident
as ever that when we look back five years from now, or ten years from now, or twenty
years from now, we’ll be better off because we had the courage to pass this law and keep
moving forward. [Music]

  1. "Obamacare is . . . the largest tax increase in the history of the world." -Rush Limbaugh

    Pants on Fire.

It's not even the biggest tax increase in US history (which belongs to Reagan).

  2. Insurance companies are necessary in case of an auto accident, but lets face it.. unless you live a flawless lifestyle, something will go wrong and you will need care, not if but when. For that reason I don't understand not backing a single payer or a universal plan.

  3. I really don't know how i'm going to pay for this… i have no job and i'm $40,000 in dept from college…

  4. My granddaughter, who was born with cataracts and hip dysplasia, can now never be denied coverage for pre-existing conditions again thanks to Obamacare! I like Obamacare!

  5. Thank you Justice John Roberts, for making the right decision on behalf of the American people – putting aside party affiliation and rising above politics; 50 million Americans thank you.

  6. If you don't have a job, then the government will help you pay for it. If you DO have a job and still don't want to buy it, then there's a 1% fine. If you make $40,000/year, that's only $33 per month. You'll survive.

  7. It´s amazing to me that this is even a question. there are people who want other people to die as long as they have ensurence themselves. Republicans are vile.

  8. If you are completely unable to pay for it, the government will not make you pay for it. That is how the mandate works.

  9. We sure can use the prescription drug coverage. We spend over $500 a month for meds, now we might get a break. Thank you, President Obama.

  10. it is so easy. and yet so hard to understand why anyone would not support it. preexisting conditions are a real problem – think about it. it is unimaginable to think that before now, people could be denied coverage because of one!

  11. If you're not financially equipped to pay the penalty: you can be exempted for religious beliefs or financial hardship.

  12. There is one thing republicans doesn't understand:

Taxes = Money for the country.

..and i thought Americans liked their country..

  13. As a Belgian , living in Belgium where we have a very good health care for ppl , I think it's great for Amercan ppl what O bama did with that health care thing i just dont understand how one can be against this , this is really a good thing for ppl in the USA!

  14. This health care bill will destroy jobs and escalate the depression America is experiencing now. As a small business owner, I have the hard facts to face. Do I get rid of 2 out of the 8 employes or give them all the choice that, they must all take a pay cut or 2 of them must be let go. I don't know how to react to this over reaching health bill. But the facts remain, Fire or Cut pay are the only answers… During a Depression adding debt to struggling Americans is not the answer.

  15. My health care plan is eating organic food and drinking water from a deep well. It cost more up front but now I'm healthy.

    Say no to drugs!!

  16. I'm confused. I keep hearing that obamacare is going to force people without insurance to get insurance. Is this true? Can someone tell me what's this really about?

  17. people with pre-existing conditions can now be covered with the Affordable Health Care Act, aka Obamacare.

  18. Under this law, all medical insurance plans are required to provide 100% coverage for preventive care.

  19. Social Security wasn't where its at now, when implemented… they improved it through the years.
Already the GOP are saying they want to keep what's already in this ACA….except the name, Obamacare…..don't they remember, they were the ones who gave it this name!…lol

  20. I encourage you all to vote for democrats and President Obama if you desire to see this law preserved, implemented and improved upon. Do not let the republicans repeal this good legislation that will help many americans obtain affordable health care.

  21. Thank you Mr. President! You will go down as one of the greatest in history. Maybe not now, but just wait your time, and finally those who are blind will see what good you have done for America. God Bless you Mr. President and here's to four more years!

  22. Are you kidding? One of the chief features of Obamacare, that has already kicked in, is children with pre-existing conditions can't be denied coverage.

  23. Does Obamacare include dental insurance? I have some teeth that need pulled but dont have the money to pay the dentist. Is the comments held over because you dont like republicans?

  24. I know this bill isn't perfect but it's better than what we had. I am willing to listen to anyone who has ideas. You can't just lie anymore about the bill the truth is getting out. If this was done in the beginning so many people wouldn't have been misinformed about the bill. When I travel abroad I see other countries taking care of their people. Why don't we? This one should be easy. No one in the richest country, should go bankrupt for getting sick. We are better than that. I know we are.

  25. Your are painfully misinformed. One of the key elements of this plan is that insurance companies MUST cover pre-existing conditions. Did you listen to the video before posting?

  26. If only I had the volume on or speakers… Thank you for Closed Captioning however, I wish more people used it in their videos

  27. President Obama is a man of integrity and one who stands by his principles no matter the political consequences, which is why I will proudly vote for you again come November.

  28. If you have no job then you can't afford to pay. Go to Healthcare Dot Gov and you can see what options you have. Also check Whitehouse Dot Gov Slash Healthreform Being saddled with student debt is hard. Getting injured or sick in the meantime would make things worse. Good luck. Hope you find a great job soon!

  29. Obama didn't do this to get more votes, he's been trying to reform the entire system to help millions of Americans in need of afforable health insurance. Good job president Obama.

  30. Our health care insurance premiums will start to go down, as everyone joins in the system, healthy and sick, we become one big "group" and we can negotiate with mega-hospital corporations and doctors. Support health insurance exchanges in your state!

  31. This plan covers pre-existing conditions. Insurance companies can no longer deny you coverage if you have a pre-existing condition and that goes for children as well!

  32. THANK YOU OBAMA CARE – I LOVE IT!!! Millions of Americans—from the women who can now access free checkups to the seniors saving on their prescriptions to the 105 million people that have seen lifetime limits on their insurance coverage lifted—can continue to enjoy these important benefits. And now, we can move forward on implementing the provisions to come, like new state insurance exchanges, and making sure no American is denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition.

  33. There are sites like IndieGoGo and YouCaring that assists people in paying off their medical expenses through crowd-funding. Why doesn't the government incentivize this type of giving by making it tax deductible?

  34. consider it a tax if you want to, but it's really just a way to make sure you won't die from easily curable diseases because not being able to afford treatment. You give, and you get; and this system only works if everyone does it, consider it paying for your health
