Republicans To The Poor: iPhones Or Healthcare

JASON CHAFFIN IT’S IS AN EXTREME
RIGHT-WINGER AND HE WENT ON CNN TO DEFEND DISTRICT CONEY AND
REPUBLICAN HEALTHCARE PROPOSAL. SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE
GOING TO LOSE THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE AND THEY’RE NOT GOING
TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD AND IT IS ACTUALLY GOING TO BE MORE
EXPENSIVE. I SAID IT WAS GOING TO BE LESS
EXTENSIVE THAN OBAMA CARE? BASICALLY HE IS TELLING YOU
I DON’T CARE. THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM NOT MINE. WHAT HE SAYS IS ACTUALLY
SLOWLY WORSE. WATCH.>>ACCESS FOR LOWER INCOME
AMERICANS DOESN’T EQUAL COVERAGE.>>WELL, WE’RE GETTING RID OF
THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE THAT WE’RE GETTING RID OF THOSE
THINGS THAT PEOPLE SAID THAT THEY DON’T WANT THAT AND
YOU KNOW WHAT? AMERICANS HAVE CHOICES AND I
ADVOCATE CHOICE. MAYBE RATHER THAN GETTING THE
NEW IPHONE THAT THEY JUST LOVE AND THEY WANT TO SPEND HUNDREDS
OF DOLLARS ON, MAYBE THEY SHOULD INVEST IN
THEIR HEALTHCARE. THEY HAVE TO MAKE THOSE
DECISIONS THEMSELVES.>>YOU REALLY THINK, THIS IS THE
COMICAL VIEW THAT REPUBLICANS HAVE A POOR PEOPLE. THERE ARE WELFARE KOREANS. THERE DRIVING CADILLACS OF THE
LATEST IPHONES AND LIVING IN THE LAP OF LUXURY THEY’RE JUST
PRETENDING TO BE POOR. YOU KNOW HOW THE POOR ARE,
THEY’RE JUST CHEATS. ALWAYS LIVING ON US THAT WHEN
YOU PUT YOUR IPHONE AWAY GET HEALTHCARE? FIRST OF ALL, I’M GOING TO
BOTHER TO GIVE YOU THE FACTS HERE WHEN IT’S OBVIOUS. IT
TURNS OUT PEOPLE WHO MAKE $30,000 OR LESS OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF
THEM DON’T HAVE IPHONES. 87% OF THEM DON’T HAVE IPHONES. YOU KNOW WHY? BECAUSE THEY CAN AFFORD THEM. THEY’RE NOT KIDDING, IT’S NOT
A JOKE OR A TRICK. THEY ARE ACTUALLY POOR. THEY ACTUALLY MAKE LESS THAN
$30,000 A YEAR WHICH FOR CHAFEE’S AND
THE REST OF THE INCREDIBLY RICH POLITICIANS WE HAVE, $30,000,
WHO COULDN’T AFFORD THAT? AS RUSH LIMBAUGH ONCE SAID, I
HAD TO CHECK INTO AN EMERGENCY ROOM, I DID HAVE INSURANCE, WHO
CARES? ALL IT COST ME WAS HAVE A SUV. THERE LIKE THAT IS NO BIG DEAL. DON’T YOU WILL HAVE THAT? THEY HAVE NO EMPATHY WHATSOEVER. BY THE WAY, AN IPHONE DOESN’T
COST ANYWHERE NEAR AS MUCH AS HEALTHCARE INSURANCE DOES LET
ALONE IF YOU DON’T HAVE INSURANCE, HEALTHCARE
COVERAGE DOES. THE LACK OF HUMANITY IS
UNBELIEVABLE. HE FURTHER CLARIFIED IN THE SAME
INTERVIEW, IN OTHER WORDS FOR LOWER INCOME AMERICANS, YOU’RE
SAYING THIS IS GOING TO REQUIRE SOME SACRIFICE
ON THEIR PART? AND HE RESPONDS YES, I THINK
THAT’S FAIR. DURING THE CAMPAIGN I REMEMBER
TRUMP ARE YOU GUYS TALKING A SACRIFICE. EVERYTHING HE WAS GOING TO BE
CHEAPER AND BETTER AND COVER MORE PEOPLE. NOW THE SUN AFTER THE CAMPAIGN,
NO, NO, SACRIFICE. WHO CARES? DON’T EAT, WHATEVER. DO WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO DO. IT’S ALL ABOUT CHOICES. THAT’S INTERESTING THAT HE SAYS
THAT BECAUSE HERE’S A CHOICE THE REPUBLICANS MADE IN THIS
LEGISLATION. THEY DECIDED TO GIVE A GIANT TAX
BREAK TO THE RICHEST PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY AND THE
MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS. THAT’S AN INTERESTING
CHOICE YOU MADE. IT TURNS OUT JASON J FITZ AND
HIS FELLOW REPUBLICANS THINK I LOVE MY RICH DONORS. IPHONES FOR EVERYBODY IF
YOU’RE RICH. WITH THOSE TAX BREAKS, YOU COULD
BUY LITERALLY THOUSANDS, MAYBE MILLIONS OF IPHONES. COMBINED, MILLIONS OF IPHONES,
IPHONE FOR EVERYBODY. YOU’RE GETTING BILLIONS OF
DOLLARS IN TAX BREAKS. THAT’S A CHOICE HE MADE AND THEN
WHEN IT COMES TO PORTS LIKE THAT’S YOUR PROBLEM. HEY, SOME OF YOUR CAN HAVE
INSURANCE. TOUGH CRAP. SHOULDN’T HAVE VOTED FOR
REPUBLICAN, IDIOT. THEN THE REST OF THE PRESS SAYS
THAT HE WALKED IT BACK. LET ME SEE THE INTERVIEW WHERE
HE THEORETICALLY AMENDED WHAT HE SAID. HE DIDN’T AMENDED ALL,
WHAT STOCK>>, SO YOU MADE ON CNN ABOUT
PEOPLE MAKING A CHOICE BETWEEN BUYING AN IPHONE AND BUYING
HEALTHCARE AND HE SAID PEOPLE ARE GOING TO MAKE SACRIFICES
THAT SOME FOLKS AND LIKE THE WAY THAT CAME OUT THE>>WILL COME OVER TRYING TO SAY
MAYBE I DIDN’T SAY IT AS SMOOTHLY AS I POSSIBLY COULD BUT
PEOPLE NEED TO MAKE A CONSCIOUS CHOICE AND I BELIEVE
IN SELF-RELIANCE AND THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE TO MAKE THOSE
DECISIONS. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO MAKE SOME
DECISIONS IN YOUR LIFE AND WHERE TO MAKE THOSE INVESTMENTS
AND YOUR HEALTHCARE, MAYBE A HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT WHICH IS
PLANS THAT WAS INTRODUCED AS VERY HEAVY ON. THOSE THE TYPES OF THINGS THAT
YOU NEED TO MAKE A CHOICE AND A DECISION YOUR LIFE AND AS AN
ADULT, YOU GET TO MAKE THOSE DECISIONS AND LIVE BY THOSE
CONSEQUENCES.>>SO HE DID NOT AMEND
WHAT HE SAID ALL. HE JUST DOUBLED THEN DOWN. YOU HEARD IT THAT IT’S AMAZING
HOW THE REST OF THE MEDIA APPARENTLY DOZENS “. DID YOU JUST MIGHT HEAR HIM? HE SAID YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE
CHOICES AND YOU HAD TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES. NOW YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU’VE
OVER REPUBLICANS, THE CONSEQUENCES, YOU BETTER BE A
MILLIONAIRE OR A MULTINATIONAL CORPORATION BECAUSE IF YOU ARE
NOT, YOU ARE GOING TO GET CRUSHED AND THEN AFTERWARD THEY
ARE GOING TO LAUGH AT YOU AND SAY SO WHAT? SO WHAT, YOU ARE NOT A RICH
DONOR OF MINE, I MADE A CHOICE. I CHOSE MY RICH DONORS OVER
YOUR WELL-BEING. SAD DAY FOR YOU. WELL, ELECTIONS HAVE
CONSEQUENCES.

  1. I love it when voters get their come upings…democracy is not a toy, but a tool. And as all tools, you better handle it with care…if not, you gonna hurt yourself and others.

  2. According to Lee Fang, Jason Chaffetz used campaign donations to buy his iPhone. In the meantime, Chaffetz used his salary provided by taxpayers to buy his health insurance. UTAH! ARE YOU GOING TO LET THIS FOOL TALK ABOUT YA'LL LIKE THAT???

  3. Why are we surprised about this idiot. We keep repeating the same shit. Two political parties that will not work for the poor. Like blaming illegals for "stealing" jobs. Last I check, who stole jobs were the big corporations taking jobs somewhere else. And this idiot telling people instead of buying an iphone pay for health insurance. I wonder if he even pays his own healthcare benefits or us the tax payers. This is such a Queen Marie Antoinette "Let them eat cake" moment.

  4. Who saw the movie John Q?? He sold everything except his wife just to afford the surgery for his son. You telling me a phone/data plan can compare to that. That should tell y'all something very important about the way those people think. They want you to chose between what should be a Right and a Need. Apparently there is a difference now.

Oh and the government/tax payer pays for this mans phone

  5. Oh no! People paying for healthcare?! You mean you have to pay for things?! Everything's not free?! How horrible!

  6. My mom's work place doesn't provide healthcare. She has pre existing conditions. 800 a month! for insurance and 7000 deductible. She makes like 40k or less a year. I am related to the perfect example of what is wrong with the american healthcare system. Insurance companies have a monopoly in their states. Not enough competition. We need more competition, More options.

  7. for the first time in my life i will go to the voters booth and vote all Democrat down the list. i make 45k a year in have a refurbished non iPhone Android. Omg!

  8. he problem is that the poor DO RIGHT CHECKS to the wealthiest in power. Millions of Americans work for bare minimum slave wages. These millions of workers are the ones creating billions in profits for CEOs and corporate presidents. Then, when the poor actually waits for the Republicans to "re-distribute wealth" by creating Universal Healthcare, the Republicans all say: "The poor (who run our companies and create all our profits) should be ashamed for asking for handouts." The Republicans who are against Universal Healthcare are evil, greedy, liars. They are the kind of people who actively practice modern slavery in the workplace. They are the kind of people WHO HAVE NO REMORSE WHEN THEY HURT OTHER PEOPLE, NOR WHEN THEY WATCH THEM SLOWLY WORK THEMSELVES TO DEATH WHILE SHROUDED IN ILLNESS AND IMMENSE SUFFERING!!!

  9. Chaffatz is a condescending prick. Healthcare is an entitlement and iPhones are a luxury. Healthcare can't be paid for by the individual anyway.

  10. Someone write a letter to Apple and point out that they are going to sell a lot less iPhones which will shrink their profits (yes I know poor people don't buy iPhones but Apple are too stupid to understand that), watch them start to lobby government to lower the price of healthcare, Apple don't give a shit about poor people but they will care about their bottom line.

  11. JC to the American People: No healthcare, well tough shit. Go eat cake. Hey wait, you gotta make a choice: you want insurance, don't eat cake. After all, cake is expensive! I smell a French Revolution – American Style comin'

  12. I feel so sad for Americans. I'm almost speechless. How less of a shit could the republicans give.

iPhone, it could take some yearly incomes to pay for some health insurance.

What does it take Trump supporters? Do people have to die before any of you say 'this guy might not be what's best for the country'. What happens when it's you or your family?

  13. Joe Biden said, "I double dog dare ya!" and I tend to accept his view over the Republican's deeply flawed, obviously irrational way of thinking.

  14. This is a stupid comparison we are talking about 700$ vs Thousands. It's ridiculous, you are correct they have no empathy.
I can't stand the Republicans this is what they do.

  15. Ok people here's what we need to do, wrap yourselves in bubble wrap, get years worth supply of chicken soup and then try not to get sick or break something for 4 years and then when the 4 years are up don't make the same mistake that you made voting for trump

  16. People don't choose to buy or not buy healthcare.

People need to get healthcare whether they can afford it or not.

  17. a Now c'mon people. We all know damn well what Chaffetz meant. Basically , live within your means. Spoilt people in this country.

  18. want to know how the UK does it?

ontop of income tax, we pay National Insurance (like 1%) which goes towards both our national healthcare and state pension.

our NI annual contributions amount up to £30 billion, which is enough to ensure that every single person in the UK gets free healthcare.

  19. Umm or you can take the money from the budget for Trump's trip to Marlo what's it called every weekend!

  20. this man's an idiot. he doesn't have to pay for anything because he has someone to pay it for him #donors. only an idiot would say shit like that

  21. The GOP is now scrambling to create a healthcare bill to replace what has been nothing but a negative campaign slogan during the Obama years – "Kill Obamacare." An old political truism is that a political slogan is NOT a policy regardless of how often it is repeated.

  22. I paid $150 for a brand new iphone 5 at Walmart. The average monthly insurance for one person is $321.

  23. Why do the poor republicans think that republican politicians care about them? The only person who would say, "oh just don't get an iphone" is someone who has never been poor.

  24. I use to live in this guy district once, and this guy really means it. He is a republican and a mormon and to him and some mormons, they think the poor are just users and lazy people that chose their situation because the LDS church tend to help them in times of trouble. Ironically back in the heart of the recession, some LDS people I knew who fell on hard times and the church was not able to help them out, had an epiphany that it was not just because of laziness but maybe because of their situation or lack of resources that was out of their control, that events did not turn out all that great.

  25. How can a super PAC pay this douchebag's phone bill. I think it is not ethical and maybe GOP should spend millions of tax dollars to investigate this POS

  26. You know what , that's great cos stupid people vote for this bunch of suckers cos they want to make America great. So that's great out of the poor Dummy people who vote for them take it , and this just starter cutting health care , welfare , Food stamps, social assistance , and on and on and on. Cos poor stupid people vote for them…. Churches sold the stupid thing about abortion and that's the way they make it through the Dummies hart and mind,,,, now take it , …..

  27. Thirty five dollars a month,. $!00 a month for a phone bill. You can afford healthcare insurance. Get off my back.

  28. I hadn't seen my friend Paul in a number of years when I bumped into him one day.  He told me he had been suffering from cancer.
    The
cancer began in his stomach and travelled to his lung.  Despite an
operation in his stomach then having part of his lung removed, the
cancer was still spreading.  It was at this point that I ran into him.
    I
told him that I am a trained spiritual healer and I arranged to do 30
minute healing session on him each week.  I also found out about Organic
Bitter Hymalayan Apricot Kernels, which are a natural cancer cure, so I
    got some for Paul.
    The
cancer tumour immediately began to shrink until it disappeared
completely.  In summer Paul will have been clear of cancer for 3 years.

Bitter Hymalayan Kernels are banned in the US – cancer research and drugs are a multi billion dollar industry and the last thing these companies need is a natural cancer cure.

    Professor
Jane Plant cured herself of breast cancer after the doctors gave her 3
months to live.  She de-toxed her body with organic food and wrote a
book entitled 'Your Life In Your Hands'.
    Animal
Rights Activist Keith Mann was diagnosed with cancer 4 years ago.
Keith shunned conventional treatment and went on the Gerson Cancer Cure,
which focusses on diet.  He is now cured of cancer.  The following is a
link to his talk about this:
Welcome to My World. Keith Mann Healing Cancer, Follicular Lymphoma, Gerson Therapy? Chemo?

  29. I am an Australian. I am on Disability due to having disabilities. As a result, I get around $A26,000 a year. I just did a quick currency conversion and that works out to around $US19,617. You know how much my phone costs? Under $A200. Which is under $US150. This idiot has zero idea.

  30. perhaps it could help to compare the health care system from United States with the one used in France or Germany, you may learn something

  31. Cenk, I understand you are over simplifying the point to communicate and stir up the lowest common denominator . But you know dam well there are several people in this consumerism brainwashed society that prioritize toys and gadgets much higher than important life needs. If you deny that fact you simply are not being honest with us or yourself in an effort to stay true to your liberal alliance.

  32. This is why I do not admire keeping tens of millions or billions of dollars a year. If more followed this same principle we may be able to understand each other better.

  33. 3:48 And of course, they even spelled ObamaCare wrong on the banner at the bottom of the screen during the interview.

  34. If you have money for an iPhone. Your not poor. If you've been settling for the cheapest phone and plan so you can afford to put food on the table. You are economically challenged. If you can afford a car and car insurance. Your not poor. If you have to live in that car for a while. You are in a financial hardship. If you got sick living in your car while trying to afford other options as you pursue employment. You are in further hardship. Sure there are those that have terrible spending habits that are only digging holes for themselves. But there are those that had to endure quite a bit of BS and a statement like iPhone or healthcare is just absurd. Try living off $20 a week while trying to recover from an illness.

  35. THAT CONGRESSMAN IS EXACTLY RIGHT!!! You lefty idiots always wanting a handout.
I gotta find out who this guy is. He is right on.

  36. We on the left need to start calling this bill RepubliCARE tie the entire party to this crap not just Trump by calling it Trumpcare

  37. The GOP and insurance industry continually use the argument that free market would allow more "choices". The fact is that
compared to single payer, private insurance market is a restriction of choices.

Under private insurance your "choices" are limited by the size of your wallet and whether you are at risk of health issues. The one choice that everyone would love is the choice, if sick or injured, to see a doctor and get medical treatment, regardless of your financial position at that point in time, and without the stress of huge medical bills. That's the choice that private insurance system will never allow you unless you are rich, but it's the choice that single payer gives everyone.

Single payer also allows your doctor virtually unlimited choice in the treatment prescribed. Single payer is just a hc finance system. You and your doc decide the treatment, and the massive risk pool single payer administration pays for it. By contrast, under private insurance you and your doctor have to scrutinize the terms of your policy and the state of your finances in order to decide what treatment is allowed.

  38. HE should tell that statement to politicians  from both parties who make decisions based n how it will affect their wealth rather than how it will affect  the wellbeing of the average citizen.

  39. wow no surprise the Liberals don't like this guy…he said the evil word…CONSEQUENCES…ohhhh careful you will give Liberals a stroke with that word….

  40. When he said IPhone, he was just using that as one of the examples that a lot of people who don't have healthcare spend there money on.
I know a lot of people like that that live in poor communities.

They don't mind leasing new BMWs, New Benzes,

They don't mind buying new pairs of shoes every month, Jordan's Nikes….

They don't mind going shopping at the mall

They don't mind going out to eat to nice restaurants like cheesecake factory

They don't mind having an $8.00 a month Netflix account.

They don't mind having a $10.00 a month Spotify account.

They don't mind going out to the movies

They don't mind having Comcast, direct tv

Are these a lot of sacrifices? Yes but whats more important.

This is only for those who complain about not being able to afford insurance.

I personally cant afford insurance, but me not being able to afford it is not the governments fault.

    Its MY FUALT!

I take responsibility for my shit.

  41. Is anyone else thoroughly sick of Republicans and politicians in general lecturing the masses about life ''as an adult you get to make those decisions'' Yeah I know that I'm 47 years old I am not interested in your life lecture.

  42. What a sht head Chaffetz is… Here's hoping that Trump supporters get the care they have coming to them via Trumpcare. Another Trump university scheme.

  43. wow you really think that he didn't say that racist shit you did dumb ass. stop labeling people!! Really Really

  44. GET THIS PEOPLE!!! REPUBLICANS HAVE SHOWN WHO THEY REALLY CARE ABOUT AND WORK FOR!!! AND IT ISN'T THE AVERAGE AMERICAN CITIZEN!!!!!!!!!!! ITS IS CORPORATIONS AND BILLIONAIRES MILLIONAIRES WHO DONATE TO THEIR CAMPAIGNS TO ELECT THEM TO KEEP CORPORATE GREED FLOWING TO BOTH THEIR POCKETS!!! WHILE THE REST OF US CONTINUE TO SUFFER JOB LOSSES TO OUTSOURCeD JOB TO OTHER COUNTRIES, DOWNSIZING DUE TO MANUFACTURING GOING AWAY!! HOW ARE WE SUPPOSE TO COMPETE?? WE NEED TO BE MORE SELF SUFFICIENT HER IN THE US AND THE CORPORATIONS NEED TO STOP THE GREED THE POLITICIANS NEED TO STOP 'CITIZENS UNITED' WHICH KEEPS THE CORPORATE GREED IN THE WHITEHOUSE!!! I AM SICK TO DEATH OF IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. These so called Christians always go on about how they care for the american people. Yet they only ever seem to give or show their christian values when it comes to the 1%
Not all, but many politicians seem to forget that they answer to all Americans not just the ones who have zeros and commas behind their name

  46. I seem to recall Young Turks having a whole lot to say about how awful Hillary Clinton and her emails were during the campaign. Now all of a sudden they want to talk about the Republicans, as if it's news how disgusting people like Chaffetz are. I don't want to hear from them or any of the other arrogant idiots who helped put people like T—- and Ryan and McConnell into power. Go away!

  47. And the Biggest Douche of the Year (who isn't Trump) award goes to…… Chaffetz actually believes that the poor could buy a year's worth of health coverage for the price of an iphone. To Chaffetz, the poor being able to afford something or not afford it is about choice, not money. It's all about choice. Well, Trump's voters chose to elect him, and Trump and the GOP are now choosing to remove their health insurance that Obama fought to get them, despite them calling Obama the most evil man on earth. Well, you chose Trump; don't you dare whine or complain when he takes away your safety net. And don't you dare blame Obama who fought to give that safety net to you.

  48. Yes I have a ZTE I got for $19 three yrs. ago. I have a couple of major medical problems and I have ACA and I'm so greatfull for it. Yes I have a choice I choose to live. Can someone help me with that once ACA is gone? Or should I just roll over a die with the rest of the sick, poor and elderly?

  49. Jason Chaffetz is your typical "because I say so" politician. People who aren't wealthy need to choose between an iphone or healthcare? Okay, so why don't wealthy corporations choose between giving their employees a raise or not bothering with wanting a tax cut? Or, this is going to sound completely wild, but how about Jason not take a tax payer pension and actually get a real job now that he's not in congress anymore

  50. Wise people choose cheaper phones, clothing & etc while rich people waist money on yachts, castles & multiple cars & private jets. Whose more waistfull i only buy things that help me survive, things i can use not yachts & castles that 20 plus rooms that are constantly empty.
